The Current Version

The current version of the Console for Windows is 2.00. For the sake of acronyms, it's called the CFW2.

Good things about this version:

  • Uses half the RAM of the CFW1.
  • Adds new commands and refines the existing command set.
  • Allows more bindings.

Bad things about this version: (Hey, I'm being honest. It may sound bad, but in most cases, it's not an issue).

  • Uses a lot of RAM still (around 20MB, although Windows will swap most of that to the hard disk).
  • Can be quite slow (the language that it was written in is an interpreted language).
  • Loads a lot of unnessecary DLLs at startup.
  • The coding takes a "brute-force" approach to most of the problems: just do what needs to be done to get the job done.

Please, don't let this you put off downloading and trying the program.

If you have a reasonable amount of RAM (more than 64Mb or so) you shouldn't notice any difference in system performance despite the Console's memory usage, even if you run large applications or 3D games.

If this version doesn't seem to stack up, why not check out the information about the next version? Version 3 is a complete re-write, so there's lots more positive news.
